Hip, hip, hooray: you're getting married on your birthday! Do two celebrations mean double the fun?

Hip, hip, hooray: you're getting married on your birthday! Do two celebrations mean double the fun?

Beautiful woman

It's a given that the team at PF loves a big, bold party, so we're obviously on board with a new trend in weddings: brides-to-be are opting to double-up on their celebrations by getting hitched on their birthday. If this is an option you're considering, here we look at the pros and cons of the affectionately-titled Birthding or Wedday.

CON: You'll only get one gift

Some people think a good birthday hinges on a great gift - and hey, we certainly agree! But while people will probably go out of their way to give you separate birthday-and-anniversary gifts for the first couple of years, this will probably peter out as the decades pass by - yes, this includes the hubby, too. If you're the type of person who loves attention and opts for a 'birthday week' (or even a birthday month!) rather than just one day, you might find yourself feeling a little short- changed.

PRO: It's double the reason to celebrate

Rolling your birthday and wedding anniversary into one has got to be the best excuse for extravagant celebrations each and every year - think overseas trips, expensive jewellery, or other treats that you wouldn't expect at any other time. It's great for your other half, as they'll only have to think of one pressie, and you're sure to be more pampered than you would be otherwise.

CON: 'Tis the season

Having all of the festivities on one day means that you'll only ever get to celebrate in one season. If you get married in the middle of winter (when your birthday falls), you might have to say goodbye to your dreams of a summer holiday in the sunshine for your anniversary.

PRO: The ultimate party

Let's face it: there probably won't be any other time in your life where you feel justified in spending thousands of dollars on a party with all of your nearest and dearest. This is especially true if you happen to get married on a milestone birthday - whether it's your 20th, 30th, 40th or more. What better way is there to celebrate than with your best friends and closest family members in a stunning venue? If you're worried there might not be enough attention on your milestone birthday, you might even like to provide an extra, smaller cake just for you to cut - just make sure it's in your favourite flavour, full of candles, and decorated with your ideal colours!

CON: A full social calendar

Unfortunately, if your birthday-slash-wedding falls near any other holiday - think Christmas or Easter - you're probably not going to get a big turnout either on the big day, or at your parties for years to come. If guest numbers are important for you, and your birthday falls on an existing holiday, you might not want to risk it.

PRO: A perfect memory - no elephant required

This might be the clearest reason of all: there's absolutely no way your spouse can be forgiven for 'forgetting' your combined birthday / wedding anniversary. If they still find it hard to keep track, you could consider giving them a permanent reminder the next time their birthday rolls around?. how about a tattoo of the big date?
